Fav Before & After YouTube: “AT Restoration” (furniture) & “Love, 518” (hair)

Restoring antique furniture in Estonia and detangling matted hair in Miami.

With both of these two people, the expertise, attention to detail and patience stand out — plus I like their commentary.

Hadassa Felix, the woman behind “Love, 518,” is an expert hairdresser with an affectionate, boundary-setting sense of humor. People whom have not washed or been able to comb their hair in sometimes years come to her desperate. There is always more to the story (of why their hair ended up like this) … and her COMPASSION, care and kindness about hearing their life stories is in itself life-changing, as are her hair services.

I also like and admire the way she takes time off for herself after intense, days-long detangling sessions. She gets a massage for example (not that that’s the only meaning of self-care ;). And she spends time regenerating — alone or with family and friends.

“You are damaged and broken and unhinged. But so are shooting stars and comets.” Nikita Gill

On the furniture restoration channel, this experienced woodworker finds broken-down, antique items thrown out in an alley or for example left outside, sometimes for years, by the side of the road. This man then meticulously cleans, repairs cracks in different ways, rebuilds missing pieces, and replaces ugly, dirty upholstery with fresh fabric and stuffing.

It’s fascinating and soothing to watch the carpentry, including close-ups of sharp and specific tools wielded with grace.
